What do I eat before I run?
It is advised to have something to eat before you ever workout. It you don’t eat before sweating a considerable amount, chances are you are going to start feeling horrible. When you sweat and start burning calories, you need the sugars and carbs to keep you going. Your body will start to use the fat that is stored; however, at a certain point, it becomes over worked from keeping you going and using that fat to convert it to energy.
Most runners usually have a type of carb and a type of protein before going out for a run: toast with peanut butter and coffee. Usually, I have a half of a bagel with cream cheese, coffee, and water or milk.
With shorter runs, 30 minutes or less, it isn’t as necessary to have more for when you feel like you’re energy is going to down. If you’re going out longer, it is important to take things like gels or other nutrition.
Sometimes, I have a snack before I go out like a Cliff Bar.
Cliff Bars come in a lot of different flavors and are organic. The only down side is that you really need to have quite a bit of water with it.
Cliff also makes something called Shot Bloks. There are several servings within one tube. They are chewy like fruit gummies and contain caffeine. These are great for longer runs because they contain electrolytes and sodium to replenish the amounts of sweat that you’ve lost while running.
There are Sports Beans. They are very jelly bean shaped and come in different flavors. These could be eaten before a run or during a long run if needed. Sports Beans contain electrolytes and sodium as well.
